UNVEILING CEREMONY OF GRAVESTONE FOR LUCILLE HENDRIX, MOTHER OF GUITAR LEGEND JIMI HENDRIX
Seattle, Washington - January 30, 2006 - There will be an unveiling ceremony of a new gravestone for Lucille Hendrix at 2 pm on February 4, 2006 at Greenwood Memorial Park, located at 350 Monroe Avenue Northeast in Renton, Washington. The ceremony celebrates the replacement of her original plain grave marker with a new memorial stone honoring the life of Lucille Hendrix.
Lucille Hendrix was born October 12, 1925 and passed away February 2, 1958. The exact location of her grave was unknown until this past year when her original marker was found through investigative efforts by Jimi Hendrix biographer Charles Cross and Lucille's son Leon Hendrix. With the help of a senior groundskeeper at Greenwood Memorial Park, they found Lucille's original 6x10" flat brick grave marker hidden several inches under the sod approximately 40 feet from the original grave of her son Jimi (James Marshall) Hendrix.
Acquisition and installation of the new gravestone has been made possible by Leon Hendrix, the James Marshall Hendrix Foundation, and its many volunteers and donors, including Electric Hendrix LLC. Bonnie Fitzgerald of the Hendrix Foundation coordinated the effort.
Speakers at the ceremony will include Hendrix biographer Charles Cross and Leon Hendrix. All are welcome to attend the ceremony.
